Preparation determines the finish.

Coatings do not fail because the topcoat was weak. They fail because the substrate underneath was never properly prepared. Here is how we handle every project — start to finish.

Eight steps

The Robbford installation sequence.

  1. 01

    Inspect the concrete

    We assess the slab, layout, transitions, and drainage before proposing a system.

  2. 02

    Identify damage and moisture

    Cracks, pits, hollow spots, and moisture behavior are documented up front.

  3. 03

    Mechanically grind the surface

    Diamond grinding creates the profile a coating needs to bond mechanically — not just chemically.

  4. 04

    Repair cracks and pits

    Voids and damaged sections are filled and shaped so the finish reads clean.

  5. 05

    Apply premium polyurea base

    A fast-setting polyurea base coat locks into the prepared profile.

  6. 06

    Broadcast decorative flakes

    Vinyl flakes are broadcast to full rejection for a uniform, seamless field.

  7. 07

    Scrape, vacuum, top with polyaspartic

    The excess is removed and a UV-stable polyaspartic clear seals the system.

  8. 08

    Final inspection & walkthrough

    We walk the finished surface with you and confirm the work meets our standard.

    Polyaspartic clear topcoat

    UV-stable, chemical-resistant seal that protects the system.

What preparation is not

Mechanical grinding is different from cleaning or etching.

Sweeping and washing a slab removes loose debris — nothing more. Acid etching opens a very shallow micro-profile that many premium systems will not bond to reliably. Mechanical diamond grinding removes surface laitance, exposes clean aggregate, and creates the concrete profile a modern coating system needs. It is the single most important step in a coating that lasts.

Substrate conditions vary. Not every slab is a candidate for every system. We share what we find in the inspection and recommend from there.
